Yes, you can study in France in English, especially at master's level. FindUniPath tracks 740 English-taught programs at 93 French public institutions: 714 master's, 19 bachelor's and 7 doctoral tracks. The official place to search is Campus France's catalogue of programmes taught in English, and most programs ask for B2 English, often shown with an IELTS score around 6.0 to 6.5.

This guide shows where the English-taught programs are, what each level looks like, the English scores universities ask for, and how much French you really need. We only cover programs fully taught in English, not mixed-language ones.

About these numbers

Where to find English-taught programs

  • [Campus France: programmes taught in English](https://taughtie.campusfrance.org/tiesearch/) is the official catalogue. Filter by level, field and city.
  • The Études en France catalogue: if you live in an EEF country, you choose programs from the catalogue on the EEF platform.
  • University pages: most universities publish a list of programs taught in English, for example Paris-Saclay and Lille.
  • [Mon Master](https://www.monmaster.gouv.fr/): lists national master's programs, including English-taught ones, for residents of non-EEF countries.

Always check the 'language of instruction' on the program page itself. Some programs are labelled international but are partly taught in French.

English-taught bachelor's programs

This is where France is limited. Of the 19 English-taught bachelor's programs we track, most are a one-year third-year (L3) entry after about 120 ECTS. Full three-year programs include:

  • Sciences Po Bachelor of Arts tracks on campuses such as Le Havre, Menton and Reims (€14,900 a year for non-EEA students, 2026/27)
  • PSL International Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence (€19,500 a year)
  • Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne Licence Economics International Track and the Una Europa joint Bachelor in Sustainability
  • Aix-Marseille IPEM, Bachelor in Economics and Management (International Program in Business and Management)
  • Toulouse School of Economics Bachelor of Science (new, starting September 2027)

Third-year (L3) options include business and economics programs at Strasbourg, Grenoble IAE, Montpellier, Dauphine-PSL, Clermont Auvergne, Paris-East Créteil and Rennes.

English-taught PhD options

PhD admission in France is organised through doctoral schools and supervisors rather than a national catalogue. You contact a doctoral school or supervisor directly, and Études en France does not apply to PhD applications. Structured English-taught tracks include the PSL PhD Tracks (chemistry, life sciences, astrophysics, computer science) and the IP Paris PhD Track, both five-year integrated master's + PhD programs.

English language requirements

Most programs express the requirement as a CEFR level. Here are real examples from official pages:

Paris 1 Licence Economics International TrackIELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 80, TOEIC 785 or Cambridge B2 First

Can you skip the English test?

Sometimes. Paris-Saclay, Université Côte d'Azur and PSL accept proof that your previous degree was taught entirely in English for many programs. Sciences Po exempts applicants who completed at least two years of a degree fully taught in English, and Grenoble Alpes exempts holders of a degree from an English-speaking country for MSIAM. These are program rules, so check the exact wording before you skip a test.

Do you need to speak French?

For admission to a fully English-taught program, usually not. Université Côte d'Azur's IdEx MSc programs, for example, require no French. But there are exceptions:

  • Some English-taught master's at Université Paris Cité also ask for B2 French (for example Computational Linguistics).
  • PSL's Fashion and Materials program asks for French A2.
  • Paris-Saclay sometimes recommends French B1, although it isn't mandatory.

Outside the classroom, French matters a lot: for housing, administration, part-time work and jobs after graduation. Starting French lessons before you arrive is one of the best investments you can make. See our honest pros and cons of studying in France.

  • Computer science, AI and data science: for example Paris-Saclay's M1 Artificial Intelligence and Côte d'Azur's MSc Data Science and AI
  • Economics: Toulouse School of Economics, Paris 1 and PSL programs
  • Engineering and energy: IP Paris, Grenoble INP and Paris-Saclay's energy tracks
  • Chemistry, physics and life sciences: Paris-Saclay, Montpellier and PSL
  • Management and business: university IAE schools in Bordeaux, Aix-Marseille, Grenoble and Clermont Auvergne

Deadlines for English-taught programs (2027/28 intake)

If you live in an Études en France country, your Campus France office may set an earlier deadline for the same programs (in Pakistan, 18 November 2026).

Applicants from Afghanistan

Paris-Saclay notes that Afghanistan is not an Études en France country, so Afghan residents apply directly on its INCEPTION platform and then apply for the student visa; Afghans living in an EEF country such as Pakistan or Iran complete the EEF 'I am accepted' step after admission. Visa applications from Afghanistan go through the French embassies in India, Iran or Pakistan.
