Watch the exceptions

Joint and double-degree programs can follow a partner's rules. Work and Organizational Psychology (with Maastricht University) follows Maastricht tuition, and the second year abroad in International Law and Sustainability may carry partner fees.

The DAAD puts student living costs at €900 to €1,200 per month depending on the city. See our cost of studying in Germany guide.

Read scholarships in Germany for international students.

Working while you study and after graduation

Non-EU students may work 140 full days or 280 half days per year. After graduation you can apply for a job-seeker residence permit for up to 18 months. Read work and stay in Germany after graduation.

Mistakes to avoid when applying to Leuphana

  • Submitting to uni-assist at the last minute. Leuphana advises sending your bachelor's application about 6 weeks before the deadline so uni-assist can check it.
  • Choosing a Professional School program for a visa. These online or part-time master's charge tuition and are usually not suited to a student visa.
  • Ignoring the consecutive rule. Most master's need a bachelor's in a related subject, proven by ECTS in that discipline; Management and Data Science is the main exception.
  • Applying to two bachelor's programs. You can submit only one bachelor's application (major plus minor) per cycle.
  • Using an old English test. Bachelor's tests may be at most 2 years old.

Benefits

  • Six English-taught bachelor's majors with no tuition
  • No German needed for English majors
  • Simple master's applications without CV for most programs
  • Strong sustainability profile

Difficulties

  • Only 5% of bachelor's places per major for non-EU applicants
  • C1 English for most master's
  • October start only
  • Professional School programs charge fees and rarely suit a student visa

Applying from Afghanistan

anabin rates the Afghan 12th-grade certificate as access only after Studienkolleg or two years of university study, so direct bachelor's entry is usually not possible from school. Studienkollegs teach in German at about B1 to B2. An Afghan bachelor's degree gives direct access to master's study. National visas are handled by the German Embassy in Islamabad; see our Germany student visa guide.
