The University of Girona (UdG) is a public Catalan university with clear, published fees for non-EU students and a useful set of English programs. For 2026/27, a non-resident non-EU student pays €65.87 per credit for most masters, about €3,950 for 60 ECTS, and Erasmus Mundus masters cost €46.11 per credit.
Unlike most Spanish public universities, Girona also teaches some bachelor's degrees in English. Here is what you pay, what you can study and when to apply.
Why Girona is good value
- Transparent prices: the 2026/27 table shows exactly what non-resident non-EU students pay per credit.
- English bachelor's degrees: rare at Spanish public universities.
- Strong robotics and engineering masters: Intelligent Robotic Systems, Medical Image Computing, Mechanics of Materials and Structures.
- Visa-aware calendar: non-EU applications close earlier so admitted students have time to get a visa.
University of Girona tuition for non-EU students
| Type of master | Residents (EU and non-EU) | Non-resident non-EU |
|---|---|---|
| Qualifying (regulated professions) | €17.69 | €41.17 |
| Non-qualifying (most masters) | €19.37 | €65.87 |
| Erasmus Mundus (FRP++, EMTM, IFROS, MAIA) | €19.37 | €46.11 |
The higher rate applies if you hold only a study-stay authorisation. Non-EU students with permanent residence or family reunification pay the resident rate. Repeat enrolments cost more (for non-qualifying masters, €81.35 per credit on the second attempt). Affiliated centres such as EUSES and ERAM charge their own private prices.
Bachelor's prices are set by the same Catalan decree. Plan for extra administrative fees, the €30.21 pre-enrolment fee and the €500 master's place reservation.

Admission requirements
Master's
- A foreign degree equivalent to a Spanish bachelor's that gives access to postgraduate study in your country; no homologation needed (except for professional masters).
- MIRS and MIC: a bachelor's of at least 180 ECTS in engineering or related sciences such as physics or mathematics.
- English B2 or equivalent for English-taught masters; no fixed IELTS or TOEFL score is published.
- Passport, degree certificate, transcripts, CV, motivation letter (documents in English, Spanish or Catalan) and proof of the €30.21 payment.
Bachelor's
Non-EU school leavers must homologate their diploma to the Spanish Bachillerato and normally sit the PAU or UNEDasiss PCE exams. You then apply through the single Catalan pre-enrolment. Applicants with homologation but no PAU, or only a conditional slip, can apply but are placed last. English-taught bachelor's degrees require B2 in a foreign language to graduate. See our Spain admission requirements guide.
Deadlines: 2026/27 dates as a guide for 2027/28
| Call (2026/27) | Dates | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Master's pre-enrolment, non-EU students | 16 Feb – 14 Jun 2026 | General period ran to 15 Sep, but closed early for non-EU |
| Bachelor's, Catalan June call | 2–26 Jun 2026 | 1st allocation 10 Jul 2026 |
| Bachelor's, September call | 16–17 Sep 2026 | Remaining places only |
The 2027/28 dates were not published when we checked. Grants for some masters (such as MIRS) usually open in February with a deadline in early May, so apply early.
Scholarships
UdG offers master's grants (ajuts de màster), and some English masters such as MIRS have their own grants. The Erasmus Mundus programs IFROS and FRP++ offer consortium scholarships. See our scholarships in Spain guide.
Living in Girona and visa money
Girona is a smaller Catalan city, and Catalan and Spanish are used in daily life. For the visa, show funds of 100% of the IPREM per month (less if housing is prepaid; tuition does not count) and health insurance from an insurer authorised in Spain. You may work up to 30 hours a week if it is compatible with your studies. Budget details are in cost of studying in Spain.
Who should choose this university
Girona suits you if you want an English master in robotics, medical imaging, chemistry or structural mechanics, or an English bachelor's in global studies or business, in a smaller and calmer city than Barcelona. If you want an Erasmus Mundus scholarship, look closely at IFROS and FRP++, which also have a lower per-credit rate.
Mistakes to avoid
- Assuming a student visa makes you a resident. For tuition purposes a study-stay authorisation is not residence, so budget for the non-EU rate.
- Applying in the last period. Late admissions often leave too little time for document legalization and the visa appointment.
- Forgetting the visa funds. The visa needs proof of 100% of the IPREM per month on top of tuition; tuition payments do not count.
- Choosing a non-qualifying master without checking the rate. Non-qualifying masters cost €65.87 per credit for non-EU students, while Erasmus Mundus masters cost €46.11.
Honest pros and cons
Benefits
- Published 2026/27 non-EU prices, with cheaper Erasmus Mundus and qualifying rates
- English-taught bachelor's degrees
- Strong robotics and engineering masters
- Early non-EU deadline protects your visa timeline
Difficulties
- Non-qualifying masters cost over three times the resident rate
- Bachelor's route needs homologation plus PAU or PCE exams
- Only 7 English masters in our data
- Catalan is widely used in daily life and admin
Applying from Afghanistan
Afghan applicants
Afghan documents need diplomatic legalization because Afghanistan is not in the Apostille Convention, and the Spanish Embassy in Kabul is closed. Visa applications go to Islamabad or Tehran with proof of legal residence there. For a bachelor's, homologation of an Afghan school certificate also takes time. Read our documents and legalization guide.
