Key takeaways
- For 2026/27 English-taught master's, first-year fees for non-EU students depend on the admission score: €0 (90+), €1,000 (70–89), €2,000–3,000 (60–69) or €4,500–6,500 (50–59).
- From the second year, fees depend on credits earned by 10 August; strong students can study with no tuition.
- For English-taught bachelor's (2025/26 table), first-year fees range from €0 to €4,500, with a €6,000 yearly ceiling.
- UniTrento lists 3 bachelor's, 28 master's and 17 PhD programs in English.

On this page
The University of Trento (UniTrento) is the Italian university where merit, not family income, decides what non-EU students pay: in 2026/27, an admission score of 90 or more meant no tuition in the first year of an English-taught master's, and earning enough credits keeps it at zero in later years.
If you have strong grades, this can make Trento one of the cheapest places in Italy to study. If your score is lower, fees can reach several thousand euros. Here is how the system works, plus programs, requirements and deadlines.
Why Trento is good value
- Merit-based fees: your admission score sets your first-year fee, and your credits set later fees. No income documents are needed.
- Zero tuition is realistic for top students who keep up with their exams.
- Strong English offer in computing, economics, law and international studies, from Artificial Intelligence Systems to International Security Studies.
- Funded PhDs: the IECS 42nd-cycle call listed a scholarship of about €21,750 gross per year, and PhD students pay only €150 provincial tax plus €16 stamp duty.

Master's programs in English (2026/27)
Master's programs are split into Group A (for example Mathematics, Physics, Data Science, Energy Engineering) and Group B (for example Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence Systems, Information and Communication Engineering). Check the full lists on the UniTrento fee page.
| Admission score | Group A | Group B |
|---|---|---|
| 90 or more | Exempt | Exempt |
| 70–89 | €1,000 | €1,000 |
| 60–69 | €2,000 | €3,000 |
| 50–59 | €4,500 | €6,500 |
In the second year, fees depend on credits earned by 10 August of the first year: 42 or more credits means exemption, while fewer than 6 credits costs €6,000 (Group A) or €10,000 (Group B). UniTrento notes that if you pay in the first year you may be exempt in the second, and vice versa.
Bachelor's programs in English (2025/26 table)
The latest bachelor's table we could verify is for 2025/26: first-year fees were €0 (score 90+), €1,000 (70–89), €2,000 (60–69) or €4,500 (50–59). Later years depend on credits, with a maximum of €6,000 a year. Check the fee page for 2026/27 and 2027/28 updates.
Low performance is expensive
Because fees follow your credits, falling behind can raise your fee sharply in the next year. Plan your study load carefully, especially in your first year in a new country.

Deadlines: last year's dates (2026/27)
UniTrento says non-EU applicants submit online applications between December and March, by the deadline in each program's call. The 2027/28 calls are not published yet. Examples from 2026/27:

Scholarships
Trento's fee system already works like a merit scholarship: if you score 90 or more and keep earning credits, you pay no tuition. For extra funding, read the scholarships section linked from UniTrento's fee pages, and remember that for regional right-to-study aid in Italy an ISEE or ISEE parificato is normally needed. Our scholarships in Italy guide covers national options such as the Italian government (MAECI) call.
Living in Trento
Trento is a small city in the Alps of northern Italy. For your visa you must prove at least €10,179.85 per year (2026/27 and 2027/28) in traceable funds, plus real accommodation and health cover. See our cost of studying in Italy guide.
