English-taught programs

AYBÜ's 2026/27 guide lists 22 English-taught bachelor's programs across social sciences, business, economics, engineering, mathematics, architecture and medicine. Popular choices include Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Economics, International Relations and Psychology. See more in our guide to English-taught programs in Turkey.

English requirement

To start your program directly, you need AYBÜ's exemption exam (YDMS) at 69.5, TOEFL iBT 79, PTE Academic 60, or Cambridge CAE/CPE grade C. Otherwise you study one year at the School of Foreign Languages (maximum two years). IELTS is not listed. Medicine (English) students must also reach Turkish C1 before year four.

Admission requirements

You choose up to two programs and submit one exam. Places are allocated by nationality quota, with priority by exam type:

  1. Table 2-A (priority): SAT at least 1120 (Math 560 for Medicine and engineering), ACT 26, TR-YÖS 350/500, IB 30 or A-levels ABB.
  2. Table 2-B: national university entrance exams, such as the Afghan Kankor.
  3. Table 2-C: school-leaving diplomas.

Exam results are valid for two years. Meeting a minimum does not guarantee admission; ties are broken by language certificate score. Foreign nationals who studied at a Turkish high school must use the YKS instead (2026 YÖK rule).

Applying from Afghanistan

AYBÜ's Table 2-B lists the Afghan University Entrance Exam (Kankor). For a bachelor's you need at least 75% of the maximum score of your exam year (60% for associate programs); the result is valid for two years. Because Afghanistan is not part of the Apostille Convention, your diploma and transcript need Turkish consulate certification. Kankor applicants are placed after Table 2-A exam holders, so a strong SAT or TR-YÖS score can improve your chances. Read our documents guide.

Documents: passport, high-school diploma (apostilled or consulate-certified) or temporary certificate, transcript, exam result, language certificate if any, and the fee receipt. At registration you add the diploma equivalence (Denklik), photos and your visa page.

The 2027/28 guide is not published yet. Because the window is only about a month long, prepare your exam result and legalized documents early, and track deadlines for free on FindUniPath.

Application fee and scholarships

The 2026/27 application fee was 1,000 TRY, 50 EUR or 50 USD, paid into AYBÜ's Halkbank account in your own name. It is not refunded. The guide lists no university scholarship for international applicants. Look at Türkiye Scholarships (10 January to 20 February) in our scholarships guide.

Settling in Ankara

  • Apply for SGK General Health Insurance within 3 months of your first registration, or private insurance becomes compulsory.
  • Apply for your student residence permit on e-İkamet while your visa is valid; the card fee is 964 TL from 1 January 2026.
  • Bachelor's students can work only with a work permit and only after their first year.

Mistakes to avoid when applying to AYBÜ

  • Paying the fee from someone else's account. The guide says the fee must be paid in the applicant's own name; keep the receipt for your application.
  • Missing the fee deadline. In 2026 the payment deadline (26 June, 17:00) was the same day the application window closed.
  • Submitting a weak exam when you have a stronger one. You can submit only one exam, and Table 2-A exams are placed first.
  • Ignoring nationality quotas. Quotas are set per nationality and program, so a popular program may have only a few places for your country.
  • Leaving legalization too late. Consular certification of Afghan documents and the Denklik equivalence can take time; start right after your exam results.

AYBÜ suits students who want low fees in Ankara, applicants who only have a national exam such as the Kankor, and future doctors looking for English-taught Medicine at a state university. If you have a high SAT or TR-YÖS score, also compare METU and Hacettepe in the same city.
