2026/27 fees not yet published

GTU's fee page still shows 2025/26 rates. It says the Higher Education Council had not yet set 2026/27 fees and that updated information would be announced from July 2026. The 2026/27 amounts may differ, so check the official fee page before you pay.

After admission you pay a 5,000 TRY pre-registration fee, which is deducted from your tuition. At registration you also provide a statement of financial means. We did not find published graduate fees.

English-taught programs

Most GTU bachelor's programs are taught 100% in English. Programs in our data include:

  • Engineering: Computer, Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, Environmental, Industrial and Aeronautical Engineering.
  • Sciences: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Molecular Biology and Genetics.

Turkish-taught programs at GTU

Economics, Geomatics Engineering, City and Regional Planning and Industrial Design are taught in Turkish, and a few others are only partly in English. If you do not speak Turkish, choose a program marked 100% English. Graduate programs in Economics are also Turkish-medium.

English requirement

To skip the English prep year you need GTU's exam (60), TOEFL iBT 78, PTE Academic 67, YDS/YÖKDİL 65, Cambridge CAE B or CPE C, e-TEP 50 or OTE 116. You are also exempt if you spent at least your last three years of school in a country where English is an official language.

Admission requirements

GTU uses a holistic evaluation with no fixed minimum. You must have completed all of high school outside Türkiye and the TRNC.

  • National high-school diploma (apostilled or certified by a Turkish mission) or a graduation-status letter
  • Official transcript
  • Exam result if you have one: TR-YÖS, SAT, ACT, AP or a national exam (valid two years); Abitur, IB and Matura have no time limit
  • Passport or ID and a biometric photo
  • Language certificate if available

Exam scores are optional but strongly improve your chances. Applying early also helps, because places fill across rolling rounds. Learn how other universities compare in our admission requirements guide.

Master's and PhD

Graduate applicants are ranked 50% on graduation grade and 50% on a scientific evaluation (written, oral or portfolio). Master's applicants need YDS 55 or GTU's English exam at 60 (department-specific), and can petition for conditional enrolment without a certificate; PhD applicants need YDS 60–65 depending on department. You submit the FR-0426 form, certified diplomas and transcripts, passport, CV, a reference letter and an English certificate.

Scholarships

GTU does not list its own scholarship for international students and links to Türkiye Scholarships (10 January to 20 February each year). See our scholarships guide.

Settling in

  • Apply for a KYK state dorm bed or another dorm early; state and university dorms are almost always gender-separated.
  • Apply for SGK General Health Insurance within 3 months of your first registration.
  • Apply for your student residence permit on e-İkamet while your visa is valid; the card fee is 964 TL from 1 January 2026.

Who GTU suits, and mistakes to avoid

GTU is a strong fit if you want an English engineering or science degree at a low lira fee but do not have a high SAT or TR-YÖS score, or cannot reach a test centre. Because evaluation is holistic, a good school record and an early application matter most.

  • Waiting for the last round. GTU places students in several rounds from March; the earlier rounds have the most places.
  • Skipping the exam because it is optional. A TR-YÖS or SAT score is not required, but GTU says it greatly improves your chances.
  • Picking a Turkish-taught program by mistake. Economics and Industrial Design, for example, are taught in Turkish.
  • Budgeting with old fees. The 2025/26 table is the latest published; the 2026/27 amount may be different, so confirm before paying.
  • Paying late. Late registration with justification was possible only until 30 November 2026 for the 2026/27 intake.
