Why UniMi is good value

  • Low fixed fees for students with income abroad, with no Italian ISEE needed.
  • Milan location: a major economic city, without the private-university prices of some Milan institutions.
  • Strong English offer in life sciences, data and economics, plus an English-taught International Medical School.
  • Joint programs with other Lombardy universities, such as the Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence master's with Pavia.

The ISEE (Italy's income certificate) does not apply when your household's income and assets are outside Italy. Instead, the second instalment is a fixed amount by your country group, and it also depends on the fee area of your program (Area A or Area B). These figures are for 2026/27.

A€130€200.00€256.00
B€160€910.00€1,164.00
C€190€3,204.00€4,101.12

Everyone pays a first instalment of €146 (€130 regional tax plus €16 stamp duty). Groups B and C pay the difference in regional tax with the second instalment. The country list is attached to UniMi's fee page; according to the FindUniPath fact pack, Afghanistan is in Group A. Check your citizenship on the official list before you budget.

Can't get an ISEE? You can still apply for aid

UniMi says students who cannot obtain an Italian ISEE can still apply for right-to-study benefits by submitting household income and asset documents with their online application.

Admission and language requirements

Bachelor's

You need 12 years of schooling. English-taught bachelor's programs such as Artificial Intelligence have limited places and a program-specific admission test; some programs require a TOLC taken at least 48 hours before the enrolment deadline (15 September 2026 for 2026/27). The International Medical School uses the IMAT.

Master's

Each master's sets its own curricular requirements (credits in specific subjects) and evaluates your documents, sometimes with an interview. There is no university-wide minimum GPA.

English

English-taught master's require B1 or B2 depending on the program. Your certificate must be no older than 3 years and on UniMi's accepted list. If you do not have one, you can take UniMi's SLAM entry test (Versant or Oxford Placement Test).

Deadlines: last year's dates (2026/27)

UniMi has not published 2027/28 dates yet. For 2026/27 the official dates were:

Scholarships

  • Right-to-study (DSU) benefits based on income and merit; you can apply with foreign income documents.
  • MAECI scholarships from the Italian Foreign Ministry (for 2026/27 the UniMi page listed a 26 March 2026 deadline).
  • MUR-CRUI scholarships for students holding international protection.
  • The European Futures Scholarships (30 × €10,000) are for EU citizens only, so they do not apply to non-EU applicants.

See our scholarships in Italy guide for more.

Living in Milan

Housing in a large city like Milan can take a big share of your budget, so low tuition does not mean a low total cost. The visa still requires at least €10,179.85 per year in traceable funds (2026/27 and 2027/28), real accommodation and health cover. Read our cost of studying in Italy guide and plan your housing early.

Benefits

  • Group A fees of roughly €346–402 a year
  • 35 English-taught master's in strong research areas
  • Can apply for DSU aid without an Italian ISEE
  • Milan's job market and internships

Difficulties

  • Housing in Milan can be costly and hard to find
  • Only 4 English-taught bachelor's
  • Early 30 April master's deadline for applicants abroad
  • Bachelor's programs have limited places and tests

Mistakes to avoid

  • Confusing UniMi with Politecnico di Milano or with private Milan universities: each has different fees and portals.
  • Waiting until summer to apply. For 2026/27, non-EU master's applicants abroad had to apply by 30 April.
  • Submitting an English certificate older than 3 years, which UniMi does not accept for master's.
  • Applying to a program with an Italian-taught curriculum: those require an Italian test or certificate.
