The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) is a public technical university in Valencia with English-taught masters in space, materials, quantum and computational engineering. New non-resident non-EU students pay double the public price, which for most masters means about €70.68 per ECTS, or roughly €4,240 for 60 ECTS.
UPV also runs a special early application round, Phase 0, only for non-EU graduates. That makes it one of the most visa-friendly calendars in Spain.
Why UPV is good value
- Public prices even when doubled: around €4,240 for a 60-ECTS master.
- Phase 0 for non-EU graduates: applications from November give you time for document legalization and the visa.
- Specialised engineering programs in English, including two Erasmus Mundus masters with scholarships.
- Up to 6 masters a year (maximum 4 per phase), so you can spread your chances.
UPV tuition for non-EU students
UPV's official price summary for 2025/26 follows Valencian Decree 101/2024. It states that new foreign students without residence, other than EU nationals, pay double the public price for each degree, and that a student-stay authorisation does not count as residence.
| Master type | Standard price | Non-resident non-EU (double) |
|---|---|---|
| Most masters | €35.34 | €70.68 |
Other master types (Erasmus Mundus, some engineering masters) have different base prices in the same table. Admin fees are extra (file opening €27.34, school insurance for under-28s). A 90-ECTS master such as Space Engineering costs about €6,360 at the doubled rate. Check the price table for your intake year, because the figures above are for 2025/26.
English-taught programs at UPV
| Master | Field | Length |
|---|---|---|
| Space Engineering | Aerospace engineering | 1.5 years (90 ECTS) |
| Computational Fluid Dynamics | Mechanical and aerospace | 1.5 years (90 ECTS) |
| Quantum Information and Photonics | Physics and ICT | 1 year (60 ECTS) |
| Advanced Materials | Materials science | 1 year (60 ECTS) |
| Computational Engineering and Industrial Mathematics (online) | Applied maths | 1 year (60 ECTS) |
| Erasmus Mundus EMISACI (environmental sustainability) | Civil and environmental | 2 years (120 ECTS) |
| Erasmus Mundus WAVES (acoustics and vibrations) | Acoustic engineering | 2 years (120 ECTS) |
UPV's other bachelor's and master's degrees are mostly in Spanish. Find more in English-taught programs in Spain.
Admission requirements
- Degree: a non-EHEA degree that gives access to postgraduate study at home, either homologated or verified by UPV for the €155.22 fee.
- Documents: passport, legalised degree certificate and transcript (average on a 10-point scale or a grade-equivalence document), a certificate from your university that the degree gives access to postgraduate study, a Europass CV and program documents.
- Translation: documents not in Spanish or English need an official Spanish translation.
- English: B2 for English-taught masters, uploaded with your application.
Countries outside the Hague Apostille Convention must use the diplomatic legalization route. Qualifying masters for regulated professions require ministry homologation. More in our admission requirements guide.

Phase 0 for 2027/28
Phase 0 for 2026/27 opened in mid-November 2025. UPV had not published 2027/28 dates in our data, so check its pre-registration page now and prepare your documents.
Scholarships
UPV's own grants for talented students are for Ibero-American students only. The Erasmus Mundus masters EMISACI and WAVES offer consortium scholarships. We found no UPV grant for Afghan applicants. See scholarships in Spain.
Living in Valencia and visa money
Valencia is a large city on the Mediterranean coast. For the visa you need funds of 100% of the IPREM per month (less with prepaid housing; tuition does not count) and health insurance from an insurer authorised in Spain. You may work up to 30 hours a week if compatible with your studies. See cost of studying in Spain.
Who should choose this university
UPV fits you if you are an engineering or physics graduate who wants a specialised English master (space, fluid dynamics, quantum, materials) and you can prepare documents early enough for Phase 0. If you need an English bachelor's, UPV is not the right choice; see Carlos III or Pompeu Fabra. Whatever you choose, read each program page carefully, because entry backgrounds, English levels and periods differ from one master to the next.
Mistakes to avoid
- Assuming a student visa makes you a resident. For tuition purposes a study-stay authorisation is not residence, so budget for the non-EU rate.
- Applying in the last period. Late admissions often leave too little time for document legalization and the visa appointment.
- Forgetting the visa funds. The visa needs proof of 100% of the IPREM per month on top of tuition; tuition payments do not count.
- Sending documents without the access certificate. UPV asks for a certificate from your university confirming that your degree gives access to official postgraduate studies.
Honest pros and cons
Benefits
- Phase 0 reserved for non-EU graduates
- Specialised English engineering masters
- Up to 6 applications a year
- English documents need no translation
Difficulties
- Non-EU students pay double the public price
- €155.22 equivalence fee if your degree is not homologated
- Only 7 English masters in our data

Applying from Afghanistan
Afghan applicants
UPV says documents from non-Apostille countries must be legalised through the diplomatic route, and Afghanistan is not in the Apostille Convention. The Spanish Embassy in Kabul is closed; visas go through Islamabad or Tehran with proof of legal residence. Start early to make Phase 0. See our documents guide.
