Izmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH): Tuition & Admission 2027

Izmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH, in Turkish İYTE) charged international bachelor's students 80,000 TRY a year for science programs and 120,000 TRY a year for engineering and architecture in 2026/27. All teaching is in English, and admission for foreign nationals is based on one exam only: TR-YÖS, minimum 300 points.

If you are strong in maths and science and want a research-oriented technical institute at a state-university price, IZTECH deserves a place on your list. Here is what it costs, what it teaches and how to get in.

Why IZTECH is good value

• 100% English teaching across every program.
• Research focus: a public institute of technology with more English-taught graduate programs (51) than bachelor's programs (18).
• Simple, transparent entry: one exam (TR-YÖS), ranked by score.
• Lira fees: tuition is set in Turkish lira, not US dollars.
• Niche programs you rarely find in English elsewhere, such as Photonics and Energy Systems Engineering.

Tuition fees (2026/27)

Fees are not refunded if you withdraw. At registration you must also show proof of financial means. IZTECH's page words this as the USD equivalent of 80,000 TRY; confirm the exact amount with the international office ([email protected]) before you travel.

Admission requirements

Bachelor's: TR-YÖS only

Foreign nationals apply with a TR-YÖS score of at least 300 (valid two years). You can choose up to three programs; candidates are ranked by score, with ties broken by preference order and then high-school GPA. Quotas are small, around five places per department. You must have studied entirely abroad: foreigners who attended a Turkish high school are excluded under YÖK rules.

• TR-YÖS result
• High-school diploma or proof you are in your final year (in Turkish or English, or with a translation certified by a Turkish mission)
• Transcripts for all high-school years
• Passport and photo
• Proof of financial means at registration

English

To skip the English prep year you need TOEFL iBT 84, PTE Academic 71, YDS/YÖKDİL 70, Cambridge CAE B or CPE C, E-TEP 74, or a pass in IZTECH's two-stage proficiency exam. IELTS is not listed.

Master's and PhD

Programs set their own minimums: ALES 65–75 or GRE Quantitative 149–157. Evaluation combines ALES/GRE (50%), bachelor's GPA and an interview. International applicants may apply with a conditional GRE: you must submit GRE Quant 145 or higher within 30 days of the semester start. You also send a motivation letter and transcripts.

Deadlines

• Bachelor's 2026/27, additional period: 8–10 September 2026 (closed). The main 2026/27 window is no longer shown on the page, and 2027/28 dates are not published yet.
• Master's and PhD, fall 2026: 10 April to 6 July 2026 (17:00), with interviews around 27–28 July 2026. Dates for the 2027/28 graduate rounds are not published yet.

Because TR-YÖS is the only entry route, plan backwards: sit TR-YÖS in the spring or autumn session before you apply. Then track deadlines for free on FindUniPath.

Scholarships

IZTECH does not publish its own scholarship for international degree students and points to Türkiye Scholarships, which covers tuition, housing, insurance, a flight and a monthly stipend (6,500 TL for bachelor's, 9,500 TL for master's, 13,000 TL for PhD; year not stated). Applications run 10 January to 20 February. Read our scholarships guide.

Who IZTECH suits best

IZTECH is a good match if you are confident in mathematics and science and can score well on TR-YÖS. Because there is no SAT or national-exam route, applicants who rely on a school-leaving certificate alone should look at universities such as Gebze Technical University or Yildiz Technical University instead.

It also suits graduate applicants: the institute lists more English-taught master's and PhD programs than bachelor's programs, and the conditional GRE option lets you apply before you have a final score.

Settling in: housing, insurance and residence

• Housing: international students in Turkey can use university dorms, state KYK dorms, private dorms or rented flats. State and university dorms are almost always separated by gender. Check IZTECH's current dorm prices before you arrive.
• Health insurance: apply for SGK General Health Insurance within 3 months of your first registration; if you miss this, private insurance becomes compulsory for your residence permit.
• Residence permit: apply on e-İkamet after registration and while your visa is valid. The permit card fee is 964 TL from 1 January 2026.
• Work: bachelor's students may work with a work permit only after their first year; internships in your program do not need one.
