Watch the language label

Some İKÇÜ programs, such as Business Administration and Public Finance, are only 30% English. This list includes only programs marked as taught in English. Always check the label in the quota table before you apply.

English-taught programs

Our data lists 16 English-taught bachelor's programs and one English-taught master's (International Trade and Business, with thesis). Bachelor's programs by area:

  • Engineering: Computer, Biomedical, Electrical and Electronics, Geomatics, Civil, Mechanical, Materials Science, Mechatronics, Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering.
  • Economics and politics: Economics, Political Science and Public Administration, International Relations, International Trade and Business, Data Science and Analytics.
  • Humanities: English Language and Literature.
  • Health: Dentistry (English).

For more options across the country, see our guide to English-taught programs in Turkey.

English requirement

English-taught programs require proof of English through a YÖK-recognised exam, or you study in İKÇÜ's English prep program. Be careful: students who do not pass the prep program within two years are dismissed. Turkish-taught programs need Turkish C1.

Admission requirements

You must be in your final year of high school abroad or have completed it there. Foreign nationals who studied at a Turkish high school are excluded under YÖK rules, with some exceptions.

  • TR-YÖS and/or SAT: at least 50/100 after İKÇÜ's conversion. SAT is checked with the College Board.
  • Diploma grade (at least 50%): accepted only for social-science programs and only from countries where TR-YÖS is not held.
  • Aptitude test: for art and design programs.

Applicants from Afghanistan and Pakistan

The 2026 TR-YÖS sessions had exam centres in Kabul, Herat, Kandahar, Mazar-i-Sharif, Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi. Because TR-YÖS is held in these countries, you should plan to apply with TR-YÖS or SAT rather than your diploma; confirm with the international office. The TR-YÖS fee was 1,150 TL at Afghan centres and 1,650 TL in Pakistan and India.

Documents: high-school diploma with a notarised Turkish translation, transcript with translation, exam result with translation, passport copy, photos, tuition payment receipt and any language certificates. You must present a diploma equivalence certificate within one year of registration. See our documents guide.

Scholarships

İKÇÜ does not state a scholarship for international degree students. The main option is Türkiye Scholarships, which covers tuition, accommodation, health insurance, a flight and a monthly stipend; applications open 10 January to 20 February. Applicants need at least 70% grades for bachelor's (90% for medicine and dentistry) and must be under 21. See our scholarships guide.

Settling in Izmir

  • Apply for SGK General Health Insurance within 3 months of first registration; otherwise private insurance is compulsory for your residence permit.
  • Apply for the student residence permit on e-İkamet after registration and while your visa is valid; the card fee is 964 TL from 1 January 2026.
  • Housing options are university dorms, state KYK dorms, private dorms or rented flats.
  • Bachelor's students can work only with a work permit and only after year one.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Choosing a 30% English program by accident. Check that the quota table says English, not 30% English, if you do not speak Turkish.
  • Relying on your diploma from a TR-YÖS country. The diploma route is closed if TR-YÖS is held in your country, and it covers social sciences only.
  • Forgetting the equivalence certificate. You must bring the diploma equivalence within one year of registration.
  • Underestimating the English prep year. Students who fail it within two years are dismissed, so improve your English before you arrive.
  • Budgeting only for tuition. The lira amount depends on the 1 July exchange rate, and you also need housing, insurance and the residence permit fee.

İKÇÜ suits students who want an English engineering, economics or dentistry degree in Izmir at a modest USD fee and who can sit TR-YÖS or SAT. If your scores are high and you want a more research-focused option in the same city, compare the Izmir Institute of Technology.
